2017 Famille Perrin Gigondas 'Clos des Tourelles'
Domaine du Clos des Tourelles is a 10-hectare walled vineyard at the foot of the village of Gigondas, acquired by the Perrin family of Beaucastel in 2008. A historic monopole at the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, it is one of Gigondas's most prized terroirs, with old vines and an exceptional sun-trap exposure.
Grape varieties: Approximately 80% Grenache, with Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre.
Terroir: 10-hectare walled vineyard at the foot of the village of Gigondas, with sandy and limestone soils. Old vines deeply rooted in the southern Rhône terroir.
Harvest & vinification: Hand-harvested in whole bunches; fermented at controlled temperature with gentle extraction.
Ageing: Aged for around 18 months in oak foudres to preserve fruit purity.
COLOUR: Deep ruby.
NOSE: Perfumed nose of red cherry, strawberry, garrigue, sweet spice and pressed violets.
PALATE: Medium- to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins, juicy fruit and a long, intense finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Pair with roast lamb, game, daube of beef and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C.
