2024 Bononia Estate Gamza
Bononia Estate sits on the largest bend of the Danube in north-western Bulgaria, on land restored by the Yotov family who founded the estate in 2013. Today Bononia farms 160 hectares with modern viticulture and was ranked among the World's Best Vineyards Top 100 in 2024. This Gamza highlights one of the country's emblematic native red grapes.
Grape variety: 100% Gamza (also known as Kadarka), an indigenous Bulgarian red.
Terroir: The Danube Plain wine region (Северна винарска област), on calcareous and alluvial soils with a moderately continental climate that suits Gamza's later ripening.
Vinification: Fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature with gentle extraction, then aged briefly to preserve the variety's lifted, fresh fruit profile.
COLOUR: Bright ruby red.
NOSE: Fresh nose of red cherry, raspberry, dried herbs and a hint of black pepper.
PALATE: Light- to medium-bodied with crisp acidity, supple tannins and a clean, fruit-driven finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Versatile at the table - pair with roast chicken, charcuterie, mushroom dishes and Bulgarian banitsa or stuffed peppers. Serve at 14-16°C.
We deliver in Sofia and across Bulgaria. Pickup available at the bar at 33 Sveti Kliment Ohridski Street during opening hours.
