2020 Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore DOC - Magnum
Ornellaia is one of the founding names of the Super Tuscan movement, founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. The 99-hectare estate sits on a unique mosaic of soils, cooled by Mediterranean breezes. The magnum format adds presence and longevity.
Grape varieties: Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Terroir: 99 hectares in Bolgheri on a mosaic of sand, marl, clay, limestone and pebbles. Mediterranean climate cooled by breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea.
Vinification & ageing: Plot-by-plot fermentation in stainless steel and oak; malolactic in barrel. Aged around 18 months in French oak (around 70% new), then refined in bottle before release.
COLOUR: Inky deep ruby.
NOSE: Complex, perfumed bouquet of blackcurrant, dark cherry, Mediterranean herbs, cedar, graphite and exotic spice.
PALATE: Full-bodied and seamless, with cashmere tannins and a long, layered finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Pair with grilled steak, rack of lamb, truffle dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C; cellaring potential of 20-30+ years.
