2019 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri DOC
Sassicaia is the original Super Tuscan, the Bolgheri estate that opened the world's eyes to Cabernet Sauvignon in coastal Tuscany. Made on the stony soils that give the wine its name, it remains the only single-estate Italian DOC. 2019 is widely regarded as a great Bolgheri vintage, balancing power and finesse.
Grape varieties: Approximately 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.
Terroir: The coastal terroir of Bolgheri, on stony, calcareous-clay soils. The Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cooling sea breezes, gives ripe fruit with preserved freshness.
Vinification & ageing: Plot-by-plot fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel; malolactic in barrel. Aged around 24 months in French oak barriques.
COLOUR: Deep, vibrant ruby.
NOSE: Complex nose of blackcurrant, dark cherry, Mediterranean herbs, cedar, graphite and subtle floral notes.
PALATE: Full-bodied yet elegant, with cashmere tannins and a long, layered finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Pair with grilled steak, rack of lamb, game and aged Tuscan cheeses. Significant ageing potential of 20-30+ years. Serve at 16-18°C.
