1983 Château Cheval Blanc Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A
Château Cheval Blanc is one of the legendary names of Saint-Émilion, classified Premier Grand Cru Classé A from 1954 to 2022. Sitting on the boundary between Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, its unusual blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot makes some of the most singular wines in Bordeaux. The 1983 is a mature collector's bottle, showing the tertiary depth and finesse of a fully evolved Cheval Blanc.
Grape varieties: Approximately 52% Cabernet Franc and 43% Merlot, with a touch of Malbec.
Terroir: 39 hectares on a unique mosaic of gravel, sand and clay soils on the border of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. Cabernet Franc thrives on the gravel, Merlot on the clay.
Vinification & ageing: Traditional fermentation, with malolactic in barrel and ageing in French oak.
COLOUR: Mature garnet with brick rim.
NOSE: Evolved bouquet of dried red and black fruit, leather, truffle, cedar, tobacco and wild herbs.
PALATE: Silky, layered and graceful, with melted tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Best alongside truffle dishes, roast duck, game birds and aged Comté. Decant with care at 16-18°C, given the age of the bottle.
