2020 Domaine de la Baume 'Grand Châtaignier' Languedoc
Domaine de la Baume sits in the Hérault valley between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Cévennes, on a historic estate now owned by Vignobles Foncalieu. 'Grand Châtaignier' is the estate's flagship Languedoc red, named after a centuries-old chestnut tree that still stands on the property.
Grape varieties: A classic Languedoc blend dominated by Syrah and Grenache.
Terroir: Sun-drenched stony soils of the Hérault valley, with Mediterranean influences and the cooling effect of altitude.
Ageing: Aged 12 months partly in French oak barrels and partly in concrete and stainless steel to preserve fruit purity.
COLOUR: Deep ruby red.
NOSE: Black fruit, garrigue, sweet spice and gentle vanilla.
PALATE: Full-bodied and silky, with ripe tannins, juicy fruit and a long, warm finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Pairs well with grilled red meats, lamb, game and Mediterranean stews. Serve at 16-18°C.
