2018 Château Cheval Blanc Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A
Château Cheval Blanc, formerly Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Émilion, sits on the boundary with Pomerol and crafts wines from a singular blend dominated by Cabernet Franc and Merlot. 2018 was a magnificent, generous vintage on the Right Bank, producing rich, layered wines with great ripeness and structure.
Grape varieties: Approximately 52% Cabernet Franc and 43% Merlot, with a touch of Malbec.
Terroir: 39 hectares on a unique gravel-and-clay mosaic on the border of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol.
Vinification & ageing: Plot-by-plot vinification, malolactic in barrel, aged around 18 months in French oak barrels (a high proportion new).
COLOUR: Inky deep purple.
NOSE: Powerful, perfumed bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, violet, cedar, graphite and warm spice.
PALATE: Full-bodied and seamless, with cashmere tannins, deep fruit and a remarkably long finish.
FOOD PAIRING: A wine for great occasions - pair with rack of lamb, truffle dishes, roast game and the finest aged cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C.
