2024 Château d'Esclans Whispering Angel Rosé
Founded in 2006 by Sacha Lichine in the Var department of Provence, Château d'Esclans set out to redefine what serious rosé could be. Whispering Angel is the entry-level cuvée and the wine that put Provence rosé on the world stage. It remains the reference point for the category.
Grape varieties: Grenache-led blend with Rolle (Vermentino), Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
Terroir: Vineyards across the Côtes de Provence appellation, on well-drained clay-limestone and schist soils in the sun-baked hills between Aix and Saint-Tropez.
Vinification: Direct press with cool fermentation in stainless steel to preserve freshness and delicate aromatics. No oak.
COLOUR: Pale, luminous pink with a faint peach glow.
NOSE: Fresh red berries, white peach, pink grapefruit and a whisper of white flower.
PALATE: Bright and dry, with a delicate creaminess, crisp acidity and a clean, saline finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Perfect as an apéritif or with light seafood, salade Niçoise, grilled prawns and Mediterranean cuisine. Serve well chilled at 8-10°C.
