2022 Stray Dog Winery Syrah
Stray Dog Winery is a boutique Zurich-based project producing tiny quantities of vin de garage-style wines from rare and small-production Swiss grapes. This Syrah comes from Satigny in canton Geneva - the largest wine-producing commune in Switzerland - whose warmer microclimate allows Syrah to ripen elegantly on calcareous-clay soils.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah.
Terroir: Satigny, canton Geneva, on calcareous-clay soils. The warmer Genevan microclimate, with Mediterranean-Alpine influences, suits Syrah well.
Vinification & ageing: Hand-harvested, fermented in temperature-controlled vats with gentle extraction; aged in French oak for added structure and subtle spice.
COLOUR: Deep purple-ruby.
NOSE: Perfumed nose of black cherry, blackberry, white pepper, violet and subtle smoky spice.
PALATE: Medium- to full-bodied, with finely grained tannins, fresh acidity and a long, savoury finish.
FOOD PAIRING: Pair with grilled lamb, peppered steak, game and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C.
