2017 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri DOC

Tenuta San Guido's Sassicaia is the original Super Tuscan, born in 1948 from Mario Incisa della Rocchetta's vision of a Bordeaux-style red on the Tuscan coast. First commercially released in 1971, it received its own Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC in 1994 - the only single-estate DOC in Italy.

Grape varieties: Approximately 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.

Terroir: The stony coastal soils of Bolgheri, with calcareous, clay and pebbly soils that give Sassicaia its characteristic structure and freshness. Mediterranean-influenced climate.

Vinification & ageing: Plot-by-plot fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel; malolactic in barrel. Aged around 24 months in French oak barriques (a portion new).

COLOUR: Deep ruby.

NOSE: Refined bouquet of blackcurrant, dark cherry, Mediterranean herbs, cedar, graphite and subtle balsamic notes.

PALATE: Elegant and seamless, with fine, polished tannins and a long, fresh finish.

FOOD PAIRING: Pair with grilled steak, roast lamb, game and aged Tuscan hard cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C; will reward 15-25 years of cellaring.
